Sitting in Ashes - The Song Collection

If you'd like to submit or comment or encourage - please email me at ChristianCharity@gmail.com

Sitting in Ashes is an CD I began putting together last year.  It is a collection of songs I have written, many expressing the anguish I feel over all the ways I fail the Lord.  The title is based on a practice from the Old Testament.  In the Old Testament, one way the people would show repentance would be to dress in sackcloth and pour ashes over their heads.

I will attempt, in the next few months to post all the songs.  I will be posting the lyrics along with the songs in MP3 format.  Since singing is not a gift the Lord chose to give me, it is unlikely I'll ever put out a CD, but I do want to post the songs here as I do think they have a message worth hearing.  Some of the songs will still be works in progress, I will note which songs are still being worked on and which are finished.

All material on this site is copyrighted, but I would be very interested in hearing from any Christian group that would like to perform any of the material.  It would please me greatly to hear them sang by someone that is blessed with the gift of singing!

I haven't added to the site for awhile, and I noticed two things.  1) It's been getting several hundred hits each month - which amazes me since I haven't updated it in awhile 2) The submit link has been broken for while, so no-one has had a way to submit or comment.  Thank you for listening - if a song moves you, then act on it.  God calls us in so many ways and we sometimes allow ourselves to not listen.

Track One - The Calling-MP3  - Status: Finished

I could just as easily have named this song "Sitting in Ashes"  It is probably one of my favorite songs.  It captures my feelings exactly.  I hope you like it, It is probably finished.  I may go back and add a brass section, but I really like the song as it is.

Track Two - The Body Bleeds-MP3

Status: The Lyrics listed below are complete, I will have to re-record the MP3 with the changes I have made to the lyrics.

Another favorite of mine, it brings to mind the hypocrisy we so easily indulge in.  We ask God why He isn't doing anything or listening, when in fact, We are the ones that refuse to move.  Brothers and sisters we need to stop worrying so much about God supplying our individual needs.  This is selfish to the extreme and not at all what Our Lord Jesus Christ did.  God does not have a problem taking care of our individual needs, but He does have a problem getting us to move, getting us to show charitable love towards others.  The problem is that we use our free will to indulge ourselves more than we use it to help those that are hurting.  We are all part of a body people and when one part of the body hurts, the whole body hurts.  O' Lord, we pay so much service to you with our lips, but fail so miserably in our actions. O' Father, forgive us, we truly don't know what we do.

Enough preaching (for now).  This song is still incomplete because I am re-arranging the words to make them sang from the first person style.  Also I am editing the first verses to make them more clear.  When I change the status to complete, you'll know it's done!

One last note - - every song on this site, I am writing from my perspective and in most all cases, if they seem to chastise, remember, the songs are almost always autobiographical in nature and it is I that is sitting in ashes and, if you are chastised, I am chastised along with you.

Track Three - Matthew26:40...MP3

- Status: This is a very rough recording, but I wanted to get this one posted.  Everything is slightly over modulated and I will eventually re-record and smooth it out.  The lyrics are complete and I will post them shortly, perhaps today.  The name might change also, to "What, could you not?

This and track 3 are my favorites.  We have so little time to spend with our brothers and sisters, especially those in need.  When we have our feasts, who are we inviting in?  We profess our love for God, but do we love the ones made in His image?  We will spend our time in churches, but will we put in our time in the field, laboring?  If we saw Jesus in the streets, we would mob Him, but we avoid the beggars and the needy.  We avoid the nursing homes and hospitals because they make us feel uncomfortable.  We truly worship, love, and honor the Father and the Son, when we do the Will of the Father.

Track Four - Do You Think They'll Believe?...Mp3  - Status: Complete

  15Nov06
It saddens me that all I seem to be writing is songs of this nature, yet at the same time, I believe I am meant to do it.  We are so far short of what God would have us to be and we delude ourselves into thinking we're exactly where we ought to be.  Consider the words to this song.  How much does your church do OUTSIDE the church walls?  The fields are ripe and ready.  Yet, here I am, sitting in ashes....
